How did the Hartford label come about?
Hartford was founded in 1979 by France's Yves Chareton with the goal of creating American clothing classics with a modern twist. The adventure started when a New York manufacturer did want to sell him old stocks of Oxford and Chambray fabrics. These were nowhere to be found anymore, but ideal for making the first vintage-inspired Hartford shirts. After several years, Yves decides to settle back in Paris. From here begins the commercial development: the collections grew in size and became synonymous with impeccable materials and style.
What materials are Hartford clothes made of?
Hartford garments are made from the finest European fabrics, such as French linen, cotton fabrics from Albini in Italy, Maruwa in Japan or old Liberty stocks. Hartford´s philosophy stands for "Alternative Classics." The "classic" aspect is reflected in the fabrics and patterns. The "alternative" aspect is reflected in unexpected but elegant details such as original prints with a touch of humor.
